The Department of Physics is one of the prominent and active departments of the college, which was established in 1951. The Physics Department started functioning in 1963 with the introduction of the B.Sc. (Physics) course, and later expanded with the commencement of the M.Sc. (Physics) programme in 2001.

The department was founded under the leadership of Dr. C. L. Gupta, who served as the Founder Head. Presently, the department is functioning under the able leadership of Prof. Om Prakash Yadav.

The department aims to develop scientific temperament, analytical thinking, and research aptitude among students, with equal emphasis on theoretical understanding and practical applications.
